In my earlier days of artistic development, I avoided subjects with colors that I felt were impossible to recreate using paint. Flowers that were deep fuchsia seemed so daunting and always turned out either too desaturated or overly red whenever I mustered up enough courage to attempt them…
For years I avoided using stretched (primed) linen canvas. It was never taut enough no matter how many blisters I would give myself trying to stretch the fabric around the wooden frame, and what was available in the stores seemed to loosen over time (or even before it left the store)…
It’s difficult to think of a more captivating site than a view of all of Paris from atop a hill, particularly at sunset. I’m fortunate enough to have spent many an evening over the years with just such a view, and have thankfully had enough courage to attempt capturing it in paint multiple times each visit! Here, I’ll demonstrate in pastel, using images and oil studies for reference.
